Nuneaton- based MES Systems<\/a>, a family firm that installs and manages state- of-the-art fire and security products, keeps clients coming back thanks to its high-quality, trustworthy service, explains managing director, Richard Morgan. <\/span>\u201cOver 96% of our work has been repeat business or referral-based and we are incredibly proud of the trust customers have in us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Started by Morgan\u2019s father Andy in 1988, MES Systems <\/span> has come far since its time as an electrical contracting business run from a home garden office. Today, it owns its site in Attleborough Fields Industrial Estate, having purchased it in 2014. One of the most established SSAIB-accredited companies in Warwickshire, a leading certification for security systems providers, and a Fire and Security Matters Awards finalist with an accreditation from the Good Business Charter to boot, it has the receipts.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trust underpins all services at MES Systems, making it a great alternative to the <\/span>template offerings of its larger, international competitors. Morgan says it is increasingly getting interest from organisations like schools and colleges who have experienced \u201cissues with poor service levels offered by multi-national providers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

From integrated fire alarms and intruder alarm monitoring to bespoke access control systems such as CCTV and automated gates for commercial and domestic clients, no project is too much \u2013 in 2021, it installed a \u201ccomplex biometric access control system\u201d in a 220,000-square-foot logistics site in Coventry. Another big achievement is a boost in the value of its maintenance contracts from \u00a3300k to 600k in the past five years \u2013 some 30% of the firm\u2019s total revenue, and clear evidence of long-term client loyalty.<\/span><\/p>\n

Extra care is part of the package too, such as \u201cworking flexibly outside retailers\u2019 operational hours,\u201d so they don\u2019t have to close, and allocating engineers \u201cto specific jobs,\u201d so clients can enjoy \u201ccontinuity\u201d of service from experts they know.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sneak a look at its client list and you\u2019ll see a diverse bunch of companies from small-scale firms right up to a \u201cMcDonald\u2019s franchise of twenty-eight sites\u201d, and even a Leicestershire zoo. How can a company manage such different customers and their unique needs, I hear you ask? High-level service is one answer, but a considered approach to who they take on is another. Based in the West Midlands, the firm\u2019s \u201ccentral location\u201d enabled by \u201cstrong transport links\u201d helps them easily service organisations both locally and further away. However, it does remain \u201cselective in terms of customer locations\u201d to keep service standards high.<\/span><\/p>\n

A family-driven leadership team MES Systems may be, but positions are earned. It\u2019s why MD Richard\u2019s brother Ashley, now sales director, worked as an installation engineer for five years first. Their father, Andy, after years of leadership, now focuses on promoting the business via \u201chis passion for networking.\u201d For Morgan, leadership is about self-reflection; \u201ca great leader knows the strengths and weaknesses of their team and more importantly themselves,\u201d he states. \u201cI have learnt to be open-minded to other people\u2019s ideas and ways of doing things.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

MES Systems is also community-focused. This includes the local football club, Nuneaton Town FC, which has enjoyed a free CCTV system upgrade. It is also a corporate supporter of Myton Hospices and the manager of the safety and security of its Coventry, Warwick and Rugby sites. Last year, team members took part in the Three Peaks Challenge for the hospice group, which saw them climb the highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland. A paid day off annually for volunteering forms part of its Thrive at Work accreditation, so there are plenty of opportunities to get charitable.<\/span><\/p>\n

A scaling business still faces challenges, and for Morgan, the ongoing recruitment of skilled engineers is essential to maintain the firm\u2019s stellar service reputation. Over the next year, \u201cdeveloping our partnerships with local schools,\u201d is something he is particularly excited about, and considering the poor safety and security service so many experience, it can\u2019t come soon enough.
