Those with learning disabilities will often be hardworking and reliable as dedicated and loyal employees, making them the perfect asset to your team.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But it\u2019s true that hiring an individual with a learning difficulty or disability means you\u2019ll have to potentially change the way you work as an employer. This is brilliant, though, as it inspires innovation and business growth. The key to making your employees successful is giving them the right environment for them to thrive. So how do you do that for employees with learning difficulties and learning disabilities?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supporting Employees With Learning Difficulties\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you hire an employee with learning difficulties it\u2019s important to remember that there isn\u2019t a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to the support they need. One individual with dyslexia might require far more support with reading than another, who might find writing more difficult than reading.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The point is, learning difficulties exist on a spectrum, and certain individuals will need more support in one area than another. That\u2019s why we aren\u2019t putting together a guide on supporting individuals with specific learning difficulties. Don\u2019t Fear The Learning Difficulty\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Employers that are unfamiliar with different learning difficulties may find it hard to understand the symptoms and therefore might fear the worst. Trial &amp; Error\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be prepared for some element of trial and error here. As you try and support your employee as best you can, you may experience a few missteps. Have honest reviews with your employee during these times. Look At Your Onboarding Process\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supporting your staff retroactively after they\u2019ve been hired is one thing, but imagine the difference you could make to your employees\u2019 wellbeing if you included open, and sensitive conversations about learning difficulties right from the start.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps during the interview or the first few weeks of a new employee starting work with you, it might be a good idea to mention what you\u2019re doing as a business to try and be more inclusive and supportive to individuals with learning difficulties.
