Two years of lockdown isn’t coming to an end and the coronavirus storm continues to rage. However, experience has shown that every time there is a major bump in the road, some organisations and some individuals do very well as a result.”

“Here are five ways to make sure you’re one of them and have a great year this – and every – year.

Firstly, choose wisely. Next to life itself, our greatest gift is the power to choose, and so it is our responsibility to create ourselves through the decisions we make and the environments we choose.

Next, mind your mindset. Don’t go into 2022 with a victim mentality, asking yourself how you survive. Change your thinking: this isn’t happening to you; it is happening for you. How can you add value most to other people in these times? How can you pivot? How can you win? How can you rise above rather than be dragged under?

Thirdly, embrace change. One definition of an entrepreneur is someone who looks for change and turns it into an opportunity. How can you be more entrepreneurial and see the opportunities in the situation, no matter how challenging? Who do you need to be to flourish?

Fourth, you need to learn. One of the things that holds us back is the speed at which we learn and change. Everything that you need to know and be able to do has been done before. How are you going to quickly learn what you need to learn and develop the skills that you need to develop? What are you going to read, watch or listen to? Who are you going to get to coach, mentor and challenge you?

Lastly, use this time to get ahead of the curve. Major events like the pandemic only seem to accelerate the changes that we can already sense. To get ahead, don’t think about changing a bit – go all in. Remember, ‘back to normal’ is an illusion and most of the changes we are experiencing are going to be lasting.”

“For better or worse, the world will not magically spring back to its former state. Your job is to build a life for tomorrow, not the yesterday that is never coming back.”

Making the most of the new year does not mean you need to think big or set yourself eye-watering goals. It could be something as simple as getting re-organised, confidently reaching out to new professional connections, or changing up your marketing campaign to hit a new, exciting audience.

Sam Spoors, Founder and recruitment director at talent specialists Talentheads, loves the potential of a new year, even if your changes are small.

“In the environment we find ourselves in once again as we enter a new year, my main advice for everyone – both personal and professional – is to concentrate on the things we can control. Covid is continuing to want to be in our plans for 2022 – that is what it is – but we are in charge of how we react to it. Now’s the perfect time to think about what we can do to make this an opportunity to adapt our focus, or perhaps concentrate on something we’ve been contemplating on for a while.”

“At Talentheads, we’re focusing on launching our new service, Talentline, which supports businesses that want to grow but still need to be conscious of the current situation. We work with them to make sure everything is ready for when they are confident to hit the button again. I’m also mindful that the new year is not always a sprint and there is something really nice about taking stock and being able to move forward with a consistent, thought-through plan. While it can be tempting to throw yourself into plans headfirst, don’t start the year as an excitable bunny – you need consistent and level-headed energy to sustain you all year long.”

“There can be a lot of pressure to make a big statement surrounding a new year, but I think it’s best to be kind to yourself – even more so at the moment. Grand statements of ‘New Year, New Start’ are all well and good, but how about we all give ourselves a pat on the back for the progress we’ve made over the last year before looking at a measurable (and realistic) goal for 2022?

One thing I do want to concentrate on in 2022 is to keep nurturing the partnerships and relationships I’ve built up over the years: after all, we’re all in this together.

Above all, we need to believe in ourselves – we’ve got this. Businesses based on strong foundations and filled with the right people will continue to deliver whatever mission and goals they set themselves.”

Your reminder for the year: be kind to yourself and others and don’t be afraid to try something new, in a new business landscape we are all learning how to navigate.

After the difficult hardships of the past two years, you may be feeling despondent about 2022, unable to see the light at the end of the tunnel and not finding much enthusiasm in this new beginning.

[11013
11976,11977
post-167431","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-opinion","tag-rb-2022","tag-rb-jan
["GET
